Preparing a Design Brief

Design Brief

The design brief is based on your branding, the information you've put together about your goals and viewers, and your example websites. This usually involves a meeting, either in person or by phone, with the producer or designer.

Most web design estimates are based on preparing two or three concepts for you to choose from, based on the structural plan and the design brief. The more descriptive the brief is, the more effectively time can be spent developing the concepts.

If your branding doesn't already specify it, consider the image you want to convey to your target viewers. This will result in the 'feel' of the site, and is conveyed by the graphic design and the tone of the copy.

Viewers will quickly get the ‘feel’ of your site.

Think of keywords which describe the way you want the viewer to perceive your company. Here are a few examples:

  • Friendly and helpful
  • Relaxed and flexible
  • Solid and reliable
  • Innovative
  • Professional
  • Exclusive and high quality
  • Offering value for money
  • Offering a top quality product
  • Enthusiastic
  • Masculine or Feminine
  • Family and child friendly
